Llama Color Quiz: Basic Colors

Learning icon Up close icon Breeders icon

Llamas enjoy playing tricks on each other, and with us, too. One "trick" is how deceptive colors can be in these animals. In addition to a fluffy coat that can affect the appearance of color, the wide variety of color variations within the species can also play tricks. The five basic COLORS (e.g. pigments) that can be seen in llamas are shown below. YOUR task is to describe what genetic color these animals are!

Please note that the opinions given for the answers are mine and NOT based on hard and fast genetic testing. They are based on information garnered from animal color coat inheritance in other animals (another hotly contested area) and years of observation of llamas and their breeding.
